Q:

When am I able to begin my lessons?

A:

You can begin taking lessons at Open Doors English at any time. Students choosing to begin lessons mid-month will only be charged for the actual lessons he or she takes, NOT the full monthly cost.

Q:

How can I pay for my lessons?

A:

On the 10th of each month, the lesson fee is automatically withdrawn from your post office account. We apologize, but we are unable to accept credit card payments at this time.

Q:

If a national holiday falls on the day I’m scheduled to take a lesson, am I still able to take my lesson?

A:

No. Open Doors English is closed each public holiday. In such instances, you won’t be charged for that lesson (ie you will be asked to pay for 3 lessons instead of the usual 4). Similarly, in months where there are 5 weeks, students have the option of choosing to take an additional lesson or not. Students choosing to take 5 lessons will be charged 1 lesson extra for that month.

Q:

If I’m unable to take my lesson as scheduled, can I take a make-up lesson at a later date?

A:

No. We hope for our students to attend on a regular basis. Not offering make-up classes is one way we at Open Doors English can give impetus in achieving this. Additionally, we don’t want to cause any disappointment or frustration for our students by offering a service or making promises that we might find hard to keep.

Q:

If I’m late for the start of my lesson, am I still able to join my lesson?

A:

Yes. You can enter your lesson at any time within its start and finish times. Unfortunately, the instructor won’t be able to make up for any time lost.

Q:

Can I change my time and class if needed?

A:

We will try to meet all student requests. Any changes that can be made will become operational from the first week of the following month.

Q:

Each summer, I need to return to my home town for a month, so I’m unable to attend my regularly scheduled classes. Will I still be charged for the month?

A:

If you inform the staff at reception before the month in question, you won’t be charged. However, we can’t guarantee that your schedule will remain open. In your absence, another student may request to join your class and so take your place in it. Schedules during a long period of absence can be guaranteed to be kept upon the payment of half the scheduled monthly fee for the month in question.

Q:

Am I able to quit Open Doors English at any time?

A:

Yes. We never ask our students to sign long contracts or buy large packages of tickets. Students are free to quit their studies at our school at any time. Unfortunately, if you choose to quit in the middle of the month, we cannot give a refund for any lessons paid for and not taken. Should students quit, but later wish to resume studying at Open Doors English may do so within one year of their final lesson and not be charged an additional entrance fee.

When do lessons start each day?

A:

Each lesson begins upon the hour.

I’d like both of my children to take kids lessons. Can you offer a discount on the lesson fee?

A:

No. Each child must pay an individual lesson fee each month. However, only one entrance fee needs to paid to include both children.

Q:

I’m already an Open Doors English student and I have a friend that wants to take lessons at Open Doors English also. Do you object to my introducing them?

A:

Of course not! We heartily welcome visitors to our school from our existing students. Should your friend choose to join us, we will discount the entrance fee for him or her by 25%. Additionally, you will receive a Book Card or Quo Card (please make your preference known) to the value of 1000 yen as a token of our appreciation to you.

Q:

I called the school during opening hours, but only got a message from an answer machine. How can I contact you?

A:

Sorry. We do have a receptionist to take your calls most hours. At times when the receptionist unable to answer the phone, please leave a message and/or your phone number. The receptionist will return your call just as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can leave a message on our contact form. Again, we will get back to you at the soonest possibility.

Q:

I see your address is the 2F of an apartment. Is your school just a room in an apartment?

A:

No. While we share the same building and address as an apartment, we are a separate, furnished office space with our own private entrance.

Q:

Can I reserve or take a lesson at any time?

A:

At ODE, we recommend taking a fixed lesson at the same time, same day each week. For the busy learner, we sell lesson points that allow the purchaser to reserve a lesson at any time if a vacant lesson is available. Note, an adult lesson has a duration of 50 minutes; a kids lesson 45 minutes. Depending upon the number of lesson points bought, these lesson points can be used at any time up to 180 days or 360 days from purchase. For students purchasing lesson points, lessons can be reserved on the internet using a mobile phone or PC.

Q:

Is there a native Japanese member of staff at the school during opening hours?

A:

No. While we do our best to have a native Japanese member of staff available during all lessons, due to other commitments it’s not always possible. Questions or concerns can be left at the front desk. A Japanese member of staff will get back on it at the soonest opportunity.

Q:

If my child takes lessons at ODE, is it possible to observe the lesson?

A:

Yes. We have a reception area adjacent to the kid’s room with comfortable seating and free beverages. We welcome any parent wishing to sit and observe their child’s lesson.
